THE HIGH STREET INCIDENT· 18 JULY 1958
In July 1958, an extraordinary disturbance unfolded along St Orison’s High Street. A Ford Anglia lost control, a No. 54 bus was involved in a collision, and several people were seen behaving strangely before a vast number of birds appeared above the town.
The St Orison Gazette attributed the incident to an unusual mass bird migration. However, recovered silent footage believed to have been filmed by reporter Alex Lanyon appears to show that the disturbance had already begun before the birds arrived.
